常田泰由 経歴

東京では3年ぶりとなる常田泰由新作展を開催しています。新シリーズ ” Cut in half twice ” のPainting、版画、コラージュのほか、book作品等、計30点余りを展示しています。作品はonlineshopでもご覧頂けます。
最小限の形（輪郭）と色で制作してきた常田泰由の今回の新作”Cut in half twice”は、細長い形の組み合わせでコラージュを作り、それを横半分、縦半分に切って、正方形等に整えて制作した作品。一度構築した作品をルールに従って切り離したのち結合させて、再構築し直したものと言えます。これは本の形に纏めた作品にも当てはまり、過去の版画作品の刷り損じや試し刷りの部分を同じサイズにトリミングし直して纏め、製本しています。こうして出来た作品には一定の法則性、リズムが生まれます。

展覧会タイトル“Cut in half twice（半分に切る、半分に切る）”は、作品を作る工程を表しています。
1.細長い線状の紙をいくつか貼り合わせ、任意の格子の形をつくる。
2.1の格子を、横方向に半分に切る。
3.上下を入れ替え、予定の高さになるよう、重ねて貼り合わせる。
4.今度は、縦方向に半分に切る。
5.左右を入れ替え、予定の幅（正方形など）になるように貼り合わせる。
The exhibition title “Cut in half twice” refers to the process of making my work.1.Paste some long, thin lines of paper together to make an arbitrary lattice shape.2.Cut the lattice of 1 in half horizontally.3.Switch the top and bottom and paste them together at the desired height.4.Next, cut the lattice in half lengthwise.5.Switch the left and right sides of the lattice and paste them together to make a desired width (e.g., a square).
